February 2021

Welcome to this month’s “Community Happenings,” where we bring you ideas, inspirations, and different ways to engage, including collaborating with members from our community. My intention is to grow our community through creating collaborative spaces, and through creating higher engagement in our live leadership sessions throughout the year.

Enjoy!

Gabriela Bernal

To begin! So far, this quarter, IGL US celebrated Generative Learners on their certification. Last week, we highlighted Gabriela Bernal, one of the five community members who achieved this milestone.

Gabriela Bernal, who resides in Chile, is a part of our IGL LATAM team and is engaged in IGL US’s Generative Coaching Excellence in Organizations Program.

Heather Howes

Next, Community Happenings brings you Heather Howes. Heather is in her first year here at IGL and is someone I have personally known for five years now, and who is new to the IGL community. She is one of the founding members of a community collaborative that I co-founded five years ago, called “The Women’s Collaborative.”*

Heather came to IGL out of her commitment to bringing her gifts and talents to the world, unapologetically. Heather is a trustworthy and competent performer who has worked really hard in her career. She came to IGL because she sensed there is something more that can be created with less effort and a deeper connection to meaning. Heather has been a demonstration of care and commitment as a student of generative leadership, and from her care and commitment, she offers us the gift of her experience.

Heather brings a generative lens to Instructional Design and has been helping IGL US with our social media messaging. Heather came up with “Sunday Spotlight.” She translated a care that we have to support and promote our community’s amazing offers in the world and created “Sunday Spotlight” as one way to do just that. I appreciate the eyes that Heather brings and how she sees opportunities for us to reach a wider audience.

Heather is also developing a Facilitator’s Guide for IGL US’s youth leadership division: Lead Yourself Youth.

Kathleen McCauley Anast

I would also like to highlight Kathleen McCauley Anast. Kathleen has worked behind the scenes for decades, longer than my involvement here! She has come back to work with IGL several times in different capacities. For many years now, our students will know her from her role as Statistics Coordinator, where she helps keep track of completion of the curriculum and for ICF Coaching credentials.

Kathleen is now helping us with our messaging and visibility. Thank you, Kathleen, for your commitment to making IGL mainstream! Kathleen was the creative brain behind the production of IGL’s New Year’s video, where the founder of IGL Global, Bob Dunham, and esteemed faculty member, Josephina Santiago, provided a welcoming New Year’s message to our community.

Thank you, Kathleen, we are committed to bringing our generative voices out in a big way! (Pictured above is Kathleen and her son, Cooper, in Bodega Bay, Northern California.)

Recently, Kathleen introduced IGL US to Ashley Avis. Ashley brought Black Beauty to life in her Disney+ creation Black Beauty. Kate Winslet is the voice of Black Beauty. Ashley is committed to bringing education, awareness, and an end to the abuse of wild horses. Ashley is the Founder & President of The Wild Beauty Foundation, as well as on the board of longtime 501(c)(3) nonprofit Lifesavers Wild Horse Rescue. You can learn more about Ashley here on IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2382037

I had the opportunity to work with Ashley, bringing the generative lens to the world of Hollywood movie pitches. Here is what Ashley had to say about Generative Learning and the power of shifting the observer to create new actions and new deeply meaningful results with less effort:

“In the entertainment business, which is often so pressure-packed, it’s hard, sometimes, to take a step back and recognize that there are things you can work on personally. That it’s okay to recognize things like anxiety or nervousness, which I have always fought back against. Our conversations about not only recognizing those feelings but embracing them to allow for new growth have been transformative.

I think in the time we are living in, regardless of industry, we all put so much pressure on ourselves. As a perfectionist, I’ve never had the mindset that it’s okay to feel those things. But you’re right, they’re inherent, organic, and if I can understand how to use them, I can move forward even more powerfully. How extraordinary! The [generative] application has already allowed me to take a decided new breath in big meetings and pitches.”
