August 2022 Community Happenings
“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact in the world around you.
What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” – Jane Goodall
I hope you’ve had the time or will have the time to take a vacation this year; go to your cabin, go visit friends or family, stay a few days at the beach or why not, go hike in the mountains or fish in a lake. It is important to slow down, rest, and find time to re-set!
I am sure you have suffered from extremely high temperatures wherever you are. I spent my summer in Europe and cannot remember summers with this kind of heat. Many European cities hit record-high temperatures, and the heat was also felt in many other countries, including the United States. Devastating fires, glaciers melting, and people dying from the heat. The Economist wrote, “Climate change affects everything from geopolitics to economics to migration. It shapes cities, life expectancies, and wine lists….”
Every continent has been affected by floods, heat waves and fires, hurricanes, famine, and many more. It is said that approximately 90% of current disasters are related to climate change. It affects everything in our lives…
This is real. We need to act and be part of the change. We need to be agents of this change, and fundamental transformation must occur in all aspects of society: how we cultivate food, the use of our soil, how we transport goods and people, and the use of our resources, among many others.
The decisions we make and make today can ensure a different future for the generations to come.
What are you doing or not doing to help? Simple things like: cut consumption and waste, leave the car at home, reduce your energy bill, get involved in an organization, and reduce plastic waste. Commit to something this month. One commitment at a time, and we can make a change. Let’s be agents of change. Let’s spread the word. Let’s be the example to follow.
Each of us can inspire another, and we can together change the world, our world, and our children’s world. One step at a time, one person at a time.
A Message from Vaishnavi
This month, I am happy to bring a beautiful message from IGL member Vaishnavi. Committed to the earth, nature, and the environment, Vaishnavi is a messenger of the need to love, cherish and take care of our Earth. I am happy to share it with all of you.
Will you be the voice for soil? #SaveSoil is a global movement bringing together people and leaders to restore soil health by instituting national policies worldwide toward increasing the organic content in cultivable soil.
The UN has reported that unless we rapidly change how we manage our soils, 90% of them could become degraded by 2050, resulting in a global food crisis. In the US, soil degradation has led to an 87% loss of micronutrients in our food. This is a serious yet silent crisis unfolding under our feet.
The Save Soil movement was started by Conscious Planet with the support of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and aims to address this issue by creating mass awareness amongst 4 billion people (60% of the voting population around the globe) to support their leaders in instituting policies and actions to revitalize and bring back the topsoil.
The movement was launched by Sadhguru – a global leader and visionary with a proven track record of over 30 years of operating multiple large-scale environmental initiatives. Other prominent leaders have joined Save Soil, including Dr. Jane Goodall, His Holiness The Dalai Lama, Marc Benioff, Mark Wahlberg, Rosario Dawson, and Deepak Chopra.
Please visit the consciousplanet.org website to learn more about soil and join this movement and register yourself as an Earth Buddy!
Let us make it happen!
Happy Beautiful Birthday!
Please join us in celebrating several Rock Stars on our team who share an August Birthday: Vaishnavi, Kelly, Natalie, and myself, Valeria! We are so blessed for each individual on our team and the collective wisdom that we bring together! Filled with gratitude, love, and wishes for a beautiful birthday!
WATCH: Rising Phoenix – a wonderful documentary about the Para Olympics narrated by nine athletes who have risen above the limits of their disability and transformed their limitations into the fire of their passion and their passion into their strength. Inspiring and beautiful.
READ: Do Hard Things – Why we get resilience wrong and the surprising science of real toughness.” Steve Magness, who coaches Olympic athletes, redefines resilience by paying attention to things like listening to your body, responding instead of reacting, embracing reality, and transcending discomfort. In the book, I found many distinctions that we have learned that enable us to become generative and use resilience to become successful, high achievers, and happier people.
My next book and a must-read for all women (and men who want to understand us) is Hormone Intelligence by Aviva Romm, M.D. A wonderful book was written by a woman’s health expert on understanding what happens to women during our lives, finding a new relationship with our bodies, and regaining well-being.
I invite all of you to send any recommendations you might have on books, series, movies, or podcasts and send them to me so we can include them in the next Community Happenings.
This month, I made:
Community Conversations –
A Space to Connect, Practice, and Share
People come together to connect, practice, and share in a safe, stimulating, and nurturing space, enriching learning opportunities and networking while broadening the generative discourse for the sake of living in a world where everyone thrives.
Eduardo Seidenthal hosted last month’s conversation. This was the second time Eduardo led a conversation with our community, and we love them!
Eduardo talked about purpose and the different ways that it can mobilize us. His video is inspiring and magnificent in that it simply but intelligently and in-depth explains how purpose, actions, and patience can generate the desired results. If you have not had a chance to see it or have not received his book, please reach out to Natalie Pere and ask for both the video and your free online copy of the book. I absolutely recommend them. Eduardo is offering a course, The SELPHtrepreneurship Program, kicking off on August 19th. Read more below under COURSE OFFERINGS…
Join us on August 4th at 12 pm ET for an exciting 75 minutes with Bruce Wilhelm, who will introduce us to WOOP, a technique that adds different cognitive tools to bridge your goals and desired outcomes. Please click on the link and print or have the flyer that Bruce has provided, as he will refer to it in the session. What is your wish? What is the best outcome possible? Come with curiosity, and let’s have fun!
Remember these conversations take place on the first Thursday of each month at 12 pm ET and are for everyone who wishes to join, from colleagues and family to graduates and mentors. Please register below and invite anyone who might benefit from this conversation. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn and share in this amazing space we are creating together.
This conversation is open to everyone!
We Are Working for You!!
For those who have not taken the survey on what offers you value, please take 30 seconds to fill it out – Click Here. Thank you for those who have; it helps us understand what you are looking for in this community!
Reminder: The “Community of Practice (CoP) Conversations” on the third Monday of the month will no longer occur. As stated last month, we have created a “Dojo Space” where learning with the rest of the Community takes place, combining both conversations into one.
Beginning September, we will have 60 minutes conversations instead of 75 minutes as many have told us they love the conversations but find it difficult to stay more than one hour.
We continue to work on new offers for the Alumni Community and are always open to suggestions, so please don’t hesitate and reach out to me if you have any. We love to hear from you. Your voice is important!!
